The Azusa Police Department, Chief Bob Garcia and our newest business partner TARGET are hosting the City of Azusa’s First Annual “NATIONAL NIGHT OUT” Community Walk on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. The event will start at 7:00pm at the Target Store, 809 N Azusa Ave, Azusa.
National Night Out is a crime-fighting unity involving safety personnel, residents and businesses to get together and strengthen communication and awareness. This event was started back in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch and now has a national sponsor with the Target Corporation.
Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, safety personnel, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations in all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. The goal of the Azusa Police Department is to build upon the good relationship our police and community share along with celebrating that partnership which makes the City of Azusa such as safe place to live, work and visit.
This year’s event is Our First, Our Inaugural, call it or Maiden Voyage and we wanted it to be a Healthy event. So we chose to do an evening 1.1 mile walk together.
There will also be Police and Fire personnel with vehicles for photo opportunities. We have also extended invitations to some local businesses and organizations for information tables.
Free food and drinks will be provided by Target Corporation.
What’s the cost? Let me read this from the Target Corporation Community website:
There are no financial barriers to participate in National Night Out. That has always been our commitment but in today’s difficult economy, it’s worth highlighting. We know communities and local law enforcement agencies are being asked to justify every expense. National Association of Town Watch (NATW), the sponsoring organization of National Night Out, partners with Target Corporation and law enforcement agencies to make sure there are no financial barriers to participating in National Night Out. We are thoughtful about how every dollar is spent and they want to make sure every National Night Out event is successful and their communities are better places to live.
